Jose Mourinho: Former Manchester United boss linked with shock return to Inter Milan

Jose Mourinho will reportedly meet with Inter director Beppe Marotta on Thursday amid rumours he is in line to make a shock return to the Serie A club.

The 56-year-old, who was sacked by Manchester United in December, has fond memories of the San Siro having won the treble there in 2010.

His relationship with the club remains one of mutual affection, and according to Italian media outlet TeleLombardia, he is currently in Milan for talks about a potential homecoming.

Current manager Luciano Spalletti is under mounting pressure, with his team languishing 20 points behind league leaders Juventus after a string of disappointing results.

The Italians were beaten to the Champions League knockout stages by Tottenham, despite being six points ahead of Spurs with three group games left.

It is understood Inter will look to replace Spalletti in the summer, and Mourinho has emerged as a potential option.

The Special One has burned bridges with former clubs Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United, but still holds a special place in the hearts of Inter fans.

He famously won the Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia with the Nerazzurri in 2010, and the club have deteriorated since his departure.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have improved dramatically since Mourinho’s sacking, with seven wins from eight league games under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

A string of rumoured bust-ups and bizarre press conferences dominated his final weeks at Old Trafford, and many fans were delighted to see the back of him.
