Harry Kane injury: Mauricio Pochettino cannot confirm striker is recovering ahead of schedule despite workout video

Tottenham have been handed a major boost as Harry Kane has stepped up his recovery from injury.

Kane suffered ankle ligament damage in Spurs’ defeat to Manchester United last month.

The striker was expected to be out until the middle of March because of the problem.

However, the 25-year-old posted a video on social media of the rehabilitation work he is undertaking in America, showing him running again less than three weeks after suffering his injury.

It is now hoped he may be able to return in time for the north London derby against Arsenal on March 2.

The sight of Kane already working out will be a big boost to Tottenham Hotspur who have missed their star man and recalled Vincent Janssen to the squad as a result.

Nonetheless, Mauricio Pochettino, the Tottenham manager, could not confirm whether Kane will be back in time for the Arsenal clash.

“I cannot tell you if he is ahead of schedule or not,” he said in a press conference. “We assess him day-by-day.

“He is showing on his social media that he looks strong and very fit and very well, running and doing exercises.

“You know him very well, he is very strong and is a guy that puts 200 per cent in to be back as soon as possible.

“He’s determined to try and recover as soon as possible and be available as soon as possible. We will see, we need to assess day-by-day, week-by-week but we are happy with how he is recovering.

“You know him, Harry would want to play tomorrow. We will see, because at the end we had experience with him, the most important thing is that he’s strong, the physical condition is so important and to keep fit and try to arrive at the moment he feels he is going to be strong and going to feel again the possibility to compete.

“For me now, (my job) is not to put some time (schedule) on him to be involved with the team because the most important thing now is to be focused on trying to recover as soon as possible and feel OK.”

Kane’s injury has coincided with the absence of Heung-Min Son who was away on Asian Cup duty with South Korea.

Dele Alli then picked up a hamstring injury that is expected to keep the midfielder sidelined until March as well.

Son made an immediate impact when he returned to the Spurs side as he scored a vital equaliser in their 2-1 win over Watford earlier this week.
