Gilberto Silva: Former Arsenal star says Martin Keown used to shout at him so much he used to dream about it

Gilberto Silva has admitted former Arsenal team-mate Martin Keown would shout at him so much that he would even dream about the former defender giving him an earful!

The pair played alongside each other for two seasons which includes the memorable ‘Invincibles’ campaign in 2003/04 which saw the Gunners go an entire Premier League season unbeaten.

And Silva, who played as a defensive midfielder for Arsenal from 2002-08, lifted the lid on what it was like playing alongside the likes of Keown.

On Keown, Silva said to talkSPORT’s Jim White: “The funniest thing for me was to play with Martin Keown because he’d shout ‘Gilberto don’t go, stay, stay, stay.’”

“And after the game when I went to sleep I had Martin in my mind shouting at me!

Silva also claimed he gave Keown sound advice on how to avoid bookings in the very physical English top flight.

He added: “Once Martin came to me in the dressing room in the morning and said ‘you’re playing in the Premier League and we have played so many games, how come you haven’t had a yellow card? It’s not possible in the Premier League’

“I said ‘Martin, I play the ball THEN I hit the player!’”

Jim then asked Brazilian Silva if he ever found it difficult to understand what Keown was saying, to which Silva replied that ex-Gunners midfielder and talkSPORT host Ray Parlour was more difficult to understand!

‘Mesut Ozil MUST be starting for Arsenal’, says Gilberto Silva
