Brighton striker Florin Andone given three-match ban for violent conduct against West Brom

Brighton forward Florin Andone has been handed a three-match suspension after being found guilty of violent conduct by the Football Association.

Romania international Andone denied the charge following an apparent elbow on West Brom’s Sam Field during Wednesday’s FA Cup fourth-round replay at The Hawthorns.

But the 25-year-old, who escaped punishment from referee Paul Tierney during the game, has now been banned retrospectively by the FA.

“Whilst he denied the charge, which followed an incident not seen by the match officials but caught on video in the 27th minute of the Emirates FA Cup fixture against West Brom on 6 February 2019, it was subsequently found proven by an Independent Regulatory Commission,” read a statement from an FA spokesperson.

Andone, who scored the equaliser in the Seagulls’ 3-1 extra-time victory against the Baggies, will now be unavailable for Saturday’s Premier League match with Burnley at the Amex Stadium.

He will also miss Albion’s FA Cup fifth-round tie with Derby on February 16 and the league trip to Leicester 10 days later.
