Arsenal team news: Henrikh Mkhitaryan returns to full training ahead of Huddersfield trip

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has returned to full training ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Huddersfield on Saturday.

The midfielder has not featured since fracturing his metatarsal in his right foot in December.

The 30-year-old played 45 minutes in Arsenal’s Under-23s game against West Ham earlier this week as it was called off due to poor visibility. The Gunners were 3-0 up at the time thanks to goals from Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

Now, Mkhitaryan will aim to help Arsenal beat Chelsea and former club Manchester United to a top-four finish.

He told the club’s website: “Unfortunately, we didn’t end up finishing the [West Ham] game. The game was called off but it was a great first half. I think we did very well.

“We could improve in some aspects but we scored three goals, were playing very good football and could’ve scored more.

“I’m thankful to everyone who has been working with me. To the medical staff, to the fitness coach and everyone, even to my team-mates. They were supporting me every day.

“It’s life, everything is happening and you can get injured or something like that. I hope that no one gets injured anymore and the team can be fully fit for the next games.”

Meanwhile, Granit Xhaka (groin) and Ainsley Maitland-Niles (knee) will be assessed before the Huddersfield game.

Arsenal are three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who have a difficult trip to league leaders Manchester City on Sunday.
