Arsenal Invincible Sol Campbell tells talkSPORT: Unai Emery is doing a ‘really good job’ but needs time

Unai Emery is doing a “really good job” at Arsenal but must be given “two or three transfer windows” to build his own team, according to Sol Campbell.

Campbell, who took his first managerial job with Macclesfield Town in November, was speaking exclusively to talkSPORT about the new Emirates chief.

And the former Arsenal and Tottenham defender claimed the Spaniard has performed well in his reign so far as manager.

“I think [Unai Emery] has done a really good job so far”, he said.

“Like me, he’s come into a side and inherited all the players and that’s tough because they’re really top heavy now.

“There’s not much room in the coffer to get new players in and you might have to move players on to get players in – and I know myself, it’s hard.

“You have that tussle, that tug of war and then you have to get a team together to play football, challenge and be competitive. So he’s got that to deal with.

“It’s probably going to take two three transfer windows before he gets a team that’s him.”

Whilst admitting that Arsenal are not quite where they should at the moment, Campbell insisted Emery must inspire them to perform well even if it isn’t his desired squad.

He said: “He’s got to inspire the players, even though they’re probably not the players he would like. But that’s football and you have get on with it.

“He’s done a really good job, he’s stable, they’ve won games. They’re not where they could be but under all the pressure he’s done really well.”

Campbell has had a solid start in his post at Macclesfield – he has won four of his opening 11 matches and steered them clear of the bottom spot in League Two.
